We arrived on Friday and left on Sunday, so technically we only had one full day in Portland. To make use of the time, we had to swing by their two most popular restaurants. First stop was Voodoo Doughnut. Okay, I don't know if it's me, but those donuts were not good. I would give it 6/10. I would have given it 5, but one extra point for their creativity, but that's about it. I think they tasted normal. They were also too sweet for my palette. We definitely have better donuts here in Vancouver. Although I'm not a fan of it, my youngest son was swooning over them. He ate 3 in two days and don't get me started on the ones he chosen (froot loops, kids are just kids).
The next mandatory stop was Pok Pok. Now, this one I was ecstatic! Although Vancouver is known to have really good restaurants, but we sure are lacking Thai restaurants and I heard that their wings are to die for. Yup! It definitely lived up to the hype. We arrived early for dinner so the wait was 10 minutes. Once I tasted the wings, I told myself that the drive was totally worth it because they are seriously finger licking good! My sister thought their chicken wings are better than Phnom Penh. I concur. In addition to the wings, we ordered papaya salad, noodles, and pork satay. Everything was scrumptious and we had no room for desserts.
Besides the dreadful drive there (raining so hard), I wouldn't mind going back to Portland. Shopping was fun! What is there to complain about tax free shopping? Nothing, of course!
Have you been to Portland? Any favorite food carts or restaurants?
